New Delhi- Dr. Prem Agrawal, Chairman of Sanjeevan Hospital and President of the National Medical Forum and Delhi Hospital Forum, has strongly opposed the government’s pressure to implement the disorganized Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) system in hospitals across the capital.Dr. Agrawal stated that this system is completely unnecessary, and if enforced, it could pose a serious threat not only to hospital management but also to the safety of doctors and staff members. He explained that according to the guidelines issued by the Central Pollution Control Board in 2016, the central STP system already implemented in private hospitals in Delhi is safe and adequate. This system ensures that hospital wastewater is treated and recycled effectively, and it fully complies with all safety norms. However, for unknown reasons, all hospitals in Delhi are now being forced to install individual STP units. This process has not been successful anywhere so far. On the contrary, it adds extra financial and technical burdens on hospital administrations and may also affect the quality of emergency services.Along with all forum members, President Dr. Prem Agrawal has appealed to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena for urgent intervention. He urged the administration not to compel hospitals—already connected to the central sewage system—to install separate STPs. Instead, he suggested strengthening Delhi’s existing sewage infrastructure to avoid unnecessary financial and technical pressure on the city’s hospitals.
